Our History
The Beginning
At the age of 18, Hendrik Christiaan Schobbers started selling grains and seeds to farms, millers, and cooperatives. In 1949, he purchased a warehouse and a silo building in Echt (NL). He traded in sowing seeds and grains. The office was located at his home in Venlo (NL).
1940s
In the 1940s, H.Ch. Schobbers NV was founded. In 1962, his son L. Schobbers joined the company. The business was mainly agriculture-focused but also included sectors like the bird feed industry.
1960s–1980s
The focus shifted to the international market – import and export of sowing seeds. In the mid to late 1960s, the founder left the company. The second generation, L. Schobbers, ensured continuity and growth. By the late 1980s, the decision was made to expand the warehouses to increase production and storage capacity.
1990s–2000
In the mid to late 1990s, the third generation joined the company. The trade in sowing seeds was significantly reduced. At the same time, the focus on food seeds & kernels intensified. A new office building in Venlo followed in 1999. Storage and processing capacity were expanded at the production site in Echt. Quality systems (HACCP and GMP) were implemented, maintained, and certified.
2000s
International food producers with A-brands became returning customers. Schobbers began to appear more frequently at international food trade fairs. BRC Level A certification was achieved. In 2009, the office in Venlo and the production site in Echt were replaced by a unique new location in Venlo – a site where office, warehouse, and production are united. A building 100% tailor-made for Seeds & Kernels.
2021–Present
In 2021, H. Ch. Schobbers was integrated into the Puratos Group and renamed Puratos Schobbers.
